Maintenance Of Hand-Crank Radios

Crank handle and gear assembly: Retract the crank handle into its slot during storage to prevent deformation caused by prolonged exposure or external pressure; rotate the handle without a load for 1–2 minutes every three months to prevent the internal gear assembly from seizing up due to prolonged inactivity. Avoid cranking too violently or rapidly, as this can cause gear teeth to strip or break.
Generator shaft: Avoid prolonged cranking in dusty or highly humid environments to prevent fine sand or grit from entering the shaft and causing wear. Before long-term storage, apply a drop of light lubricating oil to the shaft gap to ensure smooth rotation.
Power supply circuitry: Avoid continuous cranking for more than 10 minutes at a time to prevent the voltage regulation module from overheating or overloading. Maintain a steady cranking speed-avoiding sudden changes in pace-to minimize the impact of voltage fluctuations on the internal circuitry.
Do not set the volume too high, as excessive volume can sometimes damage the speaker. Protect the unit from dust; dust entering through the speaker grille can impair sound quality.
